Lulu thinks big things are funny, and really, she’s right. We were window shopping on Queen Street and in the window of a restaurant supply store we saw the world’s tallest pepper grinder. And though I am prone to exaggeration, this is no word of a lie: the thing was a good three feet tall. You’d have to have quite the wingspan to even operate it.
Lulu stopped and said, “Big things are funny. Like big couches. I’ve never sat on one but I’ve seen them on TV. And also big toothbrushes.”
I was thinking today that she was right because big things are funny. Little things like tiny dogs or purses or baby clothes are cute, but big things are either scary or funny. Sometimes both: consider your classic monster movie monster. King Kong is scary, I guess, but also kind of funny, straddling the baby Empire State Building, which is itself kind of cute because it is so little.
In the big things are funny category is also the world’s biggest poutine, which I saw last winter.
